Deciding when to travel to make the most of your wildlife viewing experience can be rather daunting, especially if you are unsure of when wildlife events occur in different countries. This is why Noah’s Ark Travel has created the Wildlife Diaries.

      

     
    

January

* Wildebeest gather on the plains of the Southern and Eastern Serengeti in Tanzania to calve through to March

 

           

   

February

* The Swiftlet nests are harvested in the Gomantong Caves in Borneo from now until April. You can watch the local workers scaling the bamboo ladders to heights of up to 90 metres.
    
* The beaches of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa become the nesting grounds for the Leatherback and Loggerhead Turtles

 
   
  

March

* Herds of Wildebeest sweep across the Western Corridor of the Serengeti in Tanzania 
    
* Quinling Mountains in China boast one of the densest populations of panda’s in the wild, and March is an ideal month to spot them
 
* It is the flowering and fruiting season in Borneo making it an ideal time to try and spot the elusive Asian Elephant and Sumatran Rhino
       

   

April

* A good time of year to see the lemurs in Madagascar during their period of mating and courtship
 
* The South Luangwa National Park in Zambia sees the starts of the Wild Dog season

 

 
  

May

* Qinghaihu Lake in the northeast of China is home to hundreds of thousands of migratory birds from now until October
 
* Swiftlets lay their eggs and the hatchlings flee their nests in the Gomantong Caves in Borneo from now until June
  
* Mating season starts from now until August for the magnificent Komodo Dragons in Indonesia


    
    

June

* The great migration is at its peak from now until July, as the herds push north from the Serengeti in Tanzania towards the Masai Mara in Kenya
  
* It is a good time to visit Botswana as the wildlife viewing is great in winter months until September
  
* Southern Right Whales arrive in the bays of South Africa to calve and relax, leaving behind the freezing Antarctic winter temperatures. They remain in the warmer waters until around October

 
  

July

* The Swiftlet nests are harvested once the baby chicks have left the Gomantong Caves in Borneo from now until September. 
     
* Wildebeest cross into Kenya and reside on the plains of the Masai Mara until October
 
* Lope National Park in Gabon is home to large groups of Mandrills, and from now until August is the best time to see them
 
* Time for Humpback whale watching off the North Eastern Coast of Madagascar till September


      

August

* The Gathering of hundreds of elephants at the Minneriya Tank in Sri Lanka is a magnificent spectacle and can be witnessed from now until October
  

* The dry season from August to September are the best months to enjoy gorilla trekking in Uganda & Rwanda 

       
   
       
September

* Ornithologists will really enjoy Madagascar from now until the end of November as the birdlife becomes more vocal during the breeding season
  
* In Namibia dry conditions force wildlife to congregate around water holes making for some spectacular wildlife viewing opportunities
 
* In Gabon big game begins to become more active on the beaches and the savannah around Tassi in Loango National Park


        
   

October

* As the National Parks begin to open in India after the monsoon season, flora is in full bloom and wildlife sightings are at their best
  
* October is the last dry month is South Africa, so now is the best time to see large concentrations of wildlife as they congregate near the water sources
     
* Herds head back down the Eastern Corridor of the Serengeti in Tanzania from the Masai Mara in Kenya

 

 

  

November

* It is the beginning of the green season in the Luangwa Valley in Zambia, making for great bird watching from now until May
  

* Gabon beaches see the return of the Leatherback Turtle as they come ashore to nest until the end of March 



            

December

* India welcomes the arrival of migratory birds from the Arctic regions
